An Bang Beach in Hoi An ancient town has been listed among the Top 25 beaches in Asia in 2019 by TripAdvisor, the world’s most popular travel guide and review website.

This is the fourth consecutive year An Bang has won a place on the list, coming in at 17th, up five places against last year.

Compiled every year, the list is based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings gathered over a 12-month period.

An Bang is one of the few white-sand beaches left in Vietnam that hasn’t been spoiled by the boom in beach tourism that has resulted in overcrowding, coral damage, and environmental pollution, according to TripAdvisor.

The best time to visit, it recommends, is between May and September.

Radhanagar Beach in India’s Andaman Islands topped this year’s list, followed by Kelingking Beach in Bali, Nai Harn Beach in Thailand, and Agonda Beach in India. Thailand seems to have the most popular beaches in the region, with five on the list.

About 3 km from the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site of Hoi An and 22 km south of Da Nang, An Bang is one of the few stretches of smooth sandy beach under palm trees in Hoi An that remains relatively unspoiled. The road along the beach is home to fishing villages and provides a romantic setting for couples. Activities include swimming, paddle-boarding, and surfing.

An Bang gained in popularity after travel site CNNGo placed it on a 2011 list of the 50 most beautiful beaches worldwide and it is now among the top things to do in Hoi An on TripAdvisor.

Located in the central province of Quang Nam, Hoi An was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its architecture is a combination of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese, with a little Western as well. It became a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999.
