Location

HaLong Bay is a World Heritage Site by recognized by UNESCO, the first time on 17/12/1994 and the second time on 2000. Ha Long Bay is a popular travel destination in Quảng Ninh Province, the northeastern Vietnam, from E106°56′ to E107°37′ and from N20°43′ to N21°09′, belongs to Ha Long City, Cam Pha town, and is a part of Van Don District, away Hanoi Old Quarter about 165km with area about 1553 km²,  including 1,960–2,000 islands, most of which are limestone. The area designated by UNESCO incorporates 434 km² with 775 islands

Ha Long Bay is a center of a larger zone which includes Bai Tu Long Bay to the northeast, and Cat Ba Island to the southwest.

The Orginal name

The Name Halong mean Dragon down. Before 19 century, this name hasn’t been recorded on pristine bibliographies of Vietnam. Until now, books  recorded Ha Long Bay with names as Gia Châu beach, Luc Chau, Luc Thuy, Van Don, Hai Dong, An Bang …and till the end of 19 century, the name Ha Long bay appear on Maritime map of French.

Once upon a time, when Vietnam had just started to develop into a country, they had to fight against invaders. The gods sent a family of dragons to help Vietnamese. When invaders’ ship into the sea, the dragons also come at that time. The dragons spitting many pearls. As a magics, these pearls  a thousand mountains, linking together to form to form a great wall against the invaders’ ship.  The invaders’ ship quickly surfing on the sea and were be an against. All ships were crashed into the mountains, stone and broke out.

After winning the battle, the family dragons weren’t comeback, they decided to stay on Earth – they very interested in peaceful sightseeing of the Earth. The place where the mother dragon descended was named Hạ Long, the place where the dragon’s children attended upon their mother was called Bai Tu Long island (Bái: attend upon, Tử: children, Long: dragon), and the place where the dragon’s children wriggled their tails violently was called Bạch Long Vỹ island (Bạch: white-color of the foam made when Dragon’s children wriggled, Long: dragon, Vỹ: tail), present day Trà Cổ peninsula, Mong Cai

Weather

The climate of the bay is tropical, sea islands, with two seasons: hot and moist summer, and dry and cold winter. The Winter from November to March of next year, the average temperature is 15°C- 20 °C . The Summer from May to September, the average temperature is 26°C- 27 °C, the Spring from April and the Autumn from October with fresh and cool. The average temperature of the year is from 18 °C- 25 °C and annual rainfall are between 2 meters and 2.2 meters. The salinity is from 31 to 34.5MT in the dry season and lowers in the rainy season
